Hong Kong – SC Lowy, a leading independent global investing and trading firm, announced today several people moves and the expansion of its Hong Kong operations to a larger space.
The Firm, launched in late 2009 with an investment and trading focus in distressed and illiquid assets, has grown to 32 employees and today is a major player and market maker in high-yield bonds, loans and special situation investments in Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Marking a company milestone, SC Lowy has traded in excess of US$11 billion in bonds and loans as of 30 June 2013, achieving double digit growth in number of trades and value each year. To support the Firm’s trading and investment success, SC Lowy has promoted a key member of its management team and added staff members to its research and sales team.

Steve Lyons, 43, General Counsel, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer. In this role he is responsible for new product due diligence, counterparty risk assessment, treasury and cash management, post investment valuations and human resources, including recruiting and facilities management. Mr. Lyons takes on COO responsibilities in addition to his role as General Counsel and oversees a staff of six. He joined SC Lowy in 2009 and holds a JD and MBA from Georgetown University and a BA from Stanford University. Chetan Baxi, who held the role of COO since SC Lowy’s founding in 2009, is now focused on special situation investments for the Firm.
Expanding SC Lowy’s high yield trading team, Jody Mariani, 35, was appointed and will lead the sales effort with a focus on institutional clients across Asia Pacific. Mr. Mariani brings 11 years of fixed income investment and trading experience to the role and has extensive knowledge of bonds, high yield securities and derivative products. Prior to joining SC Lowy, Mr. Mariani was Senior Managing Director and Head of Fixed Income Sales in Australia and New Zealand at Bear Stearns & Co. where he was responsible for Australian institutional fixed income, including structured credit products, loans, bonds and securitization sales. Mr. Mariani holds a BBA in business administration from Northeastern University in Boston.
SC Lowy has also expanded its dedicated research operation to ten employees with the appointment of Stanley Sun, 29, who will focus on Greater China, specifically credit, debt, restructurings and special situations. He brings to the role six years of experience, most recently as an associate in the leveraged debt capital markets group at Deutsche Bank AG in Hong Kong. At Deutsche Bank he advised on leveraged finance and debt capital market transactions and investment grade bond issues. Prior to that, Mr. Sun was with Nomura and before that, Lehman Brothers in New York. Mr. Sun is fluent in Mandarin and English and holds duel bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Economics from Boston University.
The Firm’s success and growth has resulted in securing new office space at Central Tower, 28 Queen’s Road Central, with nearly totally 4,000 square feet of trading floor space and operations. An office launch is scheduled in the fall 2013 in connection with the four year anniversary of the SC Lowy’s founding.
