SC Lowy names Florian Schmidt to run expanding DCM business
New team led by seasoned debt specialist to strengthen SC Lowy’s global credit platform in the wake of its successful entry into primary DCM in 2014
24 February 2015 Hong Kong – SC Lowy, the only independent fixed income specialist with full investment bank capabilities, has named Florian Schmidt to run its expanding global DCM business with immediate effect.
Appointed to the new position of Head of Debt Capital Markets, Mr Schmidt will oversee the expansion of SC Lowy’s primary debt issuance capabilities on the public bond side as well as in private special situations.
“Hiring Florian and building a DCM team represents a decisive move to our next phase, building on our recent entry into DCM,” says Michel Lowy, chief executive and co-founder of SC Lowy.
SC Lowy previously completed its landmark USD 85 million Debtor-in-Possession financing for Korea Line in 2013.
“In only five years, we have become a top trader of secondary loans in Asia-Pacific and one of the region’s major high-yield bond traders,” say Mr Lowy.
“We are now ready to deploy our balance sheet and unique research capability to build the DCM business that our global clients need,” he adds.
Mr Schmidt joins SC Lowy from ING Bank where he headed the high-yield debt capital markets group and will report to Soo Cheon Lee, co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of SC Lowy.
Prior to ING, he had worked for Deutsche Bank, Nomura, HSBC and Bank of America. During his career he originated and executed various landmark transactions, especially in the high-yield sector, some of which won multiple awards. He is author of “A Guide to Asian High Yield Bonds”, published by John Wiley in 2014.
“I am delighted to be joining SC Lowy, an investment banking business that has been and continues to be strongly committed to high-yield, a product Asia Inc. will increasingly rely on as disintermediation runs its course,” Mr Schmidt says.
“SC Lowy’s research driven approach, strong balance sheet and leading secondary market presence provides an excellent platform to originate capital market transactions, thereby assisting new and existing clients of the bank with their capital structure management,” he says.
